Howard County (Maryland) police officers shot and killed a man after he violently attacked them Saturday in Elkridge, Maryland.

Police received a 911 call around 9 a.m. from a woman who said her estranged husband was attempting to break into her home in the 6300 block of Woodland Forest Drive, Sherry Llewellyn with the Howard County Police told WTOP.

The woman told dispatchers she had a protective order against the man and she believed the husband was using PCP.

Once officers entered the home, the suspect got into a physical fight with them.

On officer was strangled and the other was struck violently in the head.

During the altercation, the officers shot the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two of the three officers were being treated at a local hospital for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The woman and her three small children were in the home and not injured.

The identity of the man has not been released.

PCP is known as one of the most dangerous and violent drugs in the world and often gives those taking it “superhuman” strength.  A Chicago Police Officer was put in the hospital last summer after a man reportedly on PCP attacked her.

Terrence Crutcher was on PCP and TCP and was shot and killed by Tulsa Police Officer Betty Shelby last July.  Shelby was later arrested for the incident.

Several officers have been killed by unarmed men on PCP according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
