Indianapolis, Indiana – An Indianapolis officer was shot multiple times Saturday afternoon by a suspect connected to an earlier shooting in which two people were struck by gunfire, authorities said. Officers responded at 3:40 p.m. to reports of someone shot in the 6400 block of Kentstone Drive. Two gunshot victims were located at the scene.
The officers located the suspect’s vehicle and a pursuit began according to Fox News. When the pursuit ended, the suspect allegedly opened fired. Five officers returned fire in response.
A female officer and the suspect were both hit. The officer was taken to a hospital and was in good condition and the suspect was listed in critical condition according to police.
Details about the officer’s injuries were not disclosed. A handgun was recovered at the scene according to police.
“She is in good spirits,” Police Chief Randal Taylor told reporters. “I’ve spoken with her in the hospital.”
In April 2020, Indianapolis Officer Breann Leath, 24, was shot and killed after she had responded to a domestic violence call.
