GEORGETOWN, S.C. – A former South Carolina police chief has pleaded guilty to robbing a bank in Georgetown, according to the Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
In 2019, Richard E. Inman robbed a bank in Pawleys Island by using a note saying he was armed and demanding cash, according to the Solicitor’s Office.
Inman, 52, was arrested by the deputies of the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office and the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office on Highway 17 in the McClellanville area, FOX Carolina reported.
Following Inman’s guilty plea, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison by Judge Steven H. John. However, the 15 years will be suspended after serving five years followed by five years of probation, according to the news outlet.
Inman resigned as police chief from the Williamston Police Department in 2011. It was unclear how long he worked at the agency or in law enforcement.
