DENTON COUNTY, Texas — A firefighter for the City of Coppell was arrested Thursday morning after the Hickory Creek Police Department said he placed hidden video cameras in his home to secretly record family members, according to a report.
An investigation revealed that Scott Simpkins had placed hidden video cameras in the bathrooms of his home to record family members without their knowledge or consent, according to law enforcement authorities.
As a result, Simpkins, 46, was taken into custody at his home on Thursday and charged with three counts of invasive visual recording. Hence, the firefighter was booked at Denton County Jail following his arrest, NBC DFW reported.
Simpkins is a captain in the emergency management division of the Coppell Fire Department. The 13-year fire veteran was placed on administrative leave Friday pending the outcome of the case, city officials confirmed.
The investigation remains ongoing. Consequently, police said additional charges could be filed against Simpkins if new evidence is uncovered.
