HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A 29-year-old woman disappeared under suspicious circumstances from a house party in Texas. Now her boyfriend, a former NFL tight end for the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins, has been named a suspect in the woman’s murder, according to prosecutors.

Kevin Ware, 40, was identified as a suspect for the first time during a bond hearing Wednesday in Montgomery County on charges unrelated to the disappearance of his girlfriend, Taylor Pomaski, 29, KPRC reported.

Although authorities have not said whether the missing woman’s remains have been discovered, prosecutors said Ware “is suspected of murdering Pomaski” after being one of several people questioned by investigators who suspect foul play, KHOU reported.

According to reports, Ware was one of the last people to interact with Pomaski before she went missing from a party at the couple’s home on April 25. Thus far no charges have been filed against him in the case, New York Post reported.

Tim Miller, the founder of the nonprofit missing-person search group Texas EquuSearch, said that during the party, “a fight broke out with [Ware] and Taylor, and, from what we understand, the fight got fairly violent.”

“This certainly is in no way going to have a happy ending,” Miller told KHOU.

The one-time NFL player was taken into custody earlier this month after he reportedly failed to report for bond supervision in connection with previous gun and drug charges, which are unrelated to the homicide investigation.

Ware’s attorney said he wasn’t previously aware of his status as a suspect in Pomaski’s disappearance.

“That’s the first time we’ve seen that,” attorney Coby DuBose told KPRC. “That filing is the first time that it’s been suggested that he is a suspect.”

Ware’s NFL career was brief. According to Pro Football Reference, he played in a total of 16 games for the Redskins and 49ers in 2003 and 2004.
