According to El Paso County Sheriff Sheriff Richard Wiles,Deputy Peter Herrera died Sunday. Herrera was shot Friday morning after conducting a traffic stop in San Elizario.
Herrera was allegedly shot multiple times by 27-year-old Facundo Chavez.
Described as an ambush, Sheriff Wiles said that “It was a very violent and unprovoked attack against the deputy. The deputy never even had the chance to draw his weapon.”
Chavez has a long criminal history. The EPCSO will ask the El Paso District Attorney to seek the death penalty for Chavez.
