Dear Law Enforcement Wife,
It’s almost like we’ve been here before.
Because we have. At least those of us who have held down the home front for many years, living behind the badge. Feeling like the world pursues evil against our families just because our loved ones wear the uniform.
Obama’s Cambridge, Michael Brown, George Floyd, BLM, Freddy Gray…we have walked this isolating road before, where the liberal, divisive media props up a false narrative, thereby endangering the very existence of our officers and our families. While the loudest minorities of weak souls are emotionally manipulated by these “hacks posing as journalists” (Leavitt, 2026), our very physical safety and emotional well-being are at stake.
Social media becomes the most ruthless place to exist as a LEOW, followed quickly thereafter by the water cooler workplace conversations, large familial or friend gatherings, and, unfortunately, even in progressive churches, where the Word of God is never even opened. This wicked groupthink of societal rot has infiltrated nearly every aspect of our daily lives, even as homemakers.
I remember searching for a septic company to service ours during the pandemic, and upon landing on the homepage of one, I was bombarded with Black Lives Matter over the top of septic workers at a construction site. Seriously?! I was just looking for a reliable septic system company! Surely they have other poo (pun-intended) to propagate besides creating their own. But I digress.
We try to shield our children’s eyes from the “F the police” bumper stickers at the stoplight, cover their ears from the radio news that reports the police have shot an “innocent man”, and coach them to never bring up that their dad is a cop to anyone, even though they are so proud. And this is just a sample of the daily grind of a police wife, not to mention the heavy burdens and stress our husbands face while trying to create homes as places of refuge from the chaos.
Oh, ladies, how much our souls desperately need an Anchor (Hebrews 6:19). We need steadfast truth from an immutable God that has stood before time began and will remain through all eternity. I’ve been clinging to God’s Word more than ever these past few weeks.
In it are the precious reminders of His faithfulness, even when my horizontal perspective appears hopeless. AW Tozer once said, “When it looks like things are out of control, behind the scenes there is a God who hasn’t surrendered His authority”.
What a beautiful truth for us police wives!
When chaos and uncertainty overwhelm, our hearts cry out, “Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth (Psalm 121:1-2). The battle is the Lord’s, not ours. He will fight for us; we need only be still (Exodus 14:14). He commands the winds and waves (Matthew 8:27), and nothing is outside of His control. He raises the sun and sets it and yet asks me to cast my burdens on Him for He cares for me (1 Peter 5:7). We must rest in His promises, trusting that He is working all things together for His glory and our good (Romans 8:28). And that we should “take heart, for He has over come the world” (John 16:33).
So friends, look to Christ.
Keep your gaze fixed.
Meditate on His Word.
Log out of social media.
Love your family well.
Be encouraged that He will never leave nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
He is full of truth, goodness, and beauty in a well that never runs dry!
As I’ve sat here just to type up just a glimpse of the massive bounty of God’s blessings and promises, “the things of this earth have grown strangely dim…in the light of His glory and grace” (hymn, Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus). May this be so in our lives!
