Chief Tim Barfield (ret.) doesn’t need me to defend him. In fact, Tim doesn’t need anyone to defend him because there is nothing to defend. To be clear, Tim Barfield is one of the best men I know. He’s a staunch fighter for the truth. He loves everyone he encounters and he truly wants to find solutions to help others. He also happens to be a Christian and he often writes and speaks with a scripture not far away. This world needs more men like Tim Barfield.
This is why Tim Barfield is the enemy of evil.
Combine truth, love and Jesus and it was not a surprise that I woke up this morning to find a baseless media attack on my friend and Brother in Christ.
While it wasn’t a surprise, and I’ve been there myself, it is somewhat surprising that the media outlet hasn’t received the message.
It’s 2025 and no one cares about your political attack jargon and your fake narrative.
The Attack
I don’t even want to give this cowardly media outlet attention but what they did is so 2020, it’s hard to understand how anyone reads what they write.
The play is pretty simple.
Tim has being doing expert work in defending law enforcement and he happens to be a truth teller so it goes like this. Search everything Tim has ever said, rip it out of context and find one person to call him a racist. Bogus up a sensational headline and cross your fingers for clicks and outrage.
The Alleged Crime
The headline is all the media cares about because 85% of the public doesn’t read past that and less than 1% will even click to see the original article that would make the media look like fools.
Headline: “The problems in the black community are values problems and not racial problems.”
You have to suspend your knowledge of the English language to even understand that headline but let’s take a look at one of Tim’s articles that discusses this issue:
We continually hear the call for an honest discussion about race but there is no way that some will let that happen. To have an honest discussion will put the responsibility for bad behavior, poor results and the responsibility to make changes in the hands of those who use all the excuses to keep the power from the very hands of those who are supposed to be oppressed. God forbid we should ever empower a group of people to shake off excuses and put on responsibility…We live in a great country and our rights are important but not more important that the responsibility to be good citizens and live for truth. In the Biblical story about the adulteress woman, Jesus is asked to make a judgment call about the law. Jesus stoops to write in the dirt something that is left to speculation but drives all the accusers away and leaves no one to throw the stones. The point to the message in the sand is that hypocrisy in judging others is wrong. Jesus goes on a few sentences later to in John 8:32 to speak of truth in this way, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
There is no doubt that there was terrible discrimination in this country in the past. There is also no doubt that the truth about racial problems in this country today have more to do with the values of the people who cry “Racism” than they do about discrimination. The rate of children in fatherless homes is devastating and even more so in the black community. Raising young men to be responsible men is incredibly hard without a good man to do so…Black males commit more than half the murders in the country and only represent about 6 percent of the population. They represent a disproportionate number in almost every crime category statistic published by the Department of Justice. This has nothing to do with discrimination and everything to do with values.
The Real Crime
As you can see, Tim Barfield said the truth and since it’s cool to be triggered, someone was and used their media allies to attack a good man. He discussed Scripture and he talked about a problem that every sociologist in America acknowledges. The biggest predictor of crime is the lack of a father in the home. Tim didn’t invent this but he knows how to read and coupled with decades of law enforcement experience and the words of President Obama gave him more than enough credibility to discuss it.
The real crime isn’t what Tim said. It’s that he had the courage to say it. The truth is the enemy to the fake news. Their narrative must reign and good men like Tim Barfield threaten that. If you ever wondered why police leaders sit back and let the lies spew, look no further than what was done to Tim.
But for courageous leaders, sitting on the sideline is not an option.
And for the cowards in the newsroom, it worked because they can always rely on other cowards to bend the knee. After the article, the Mayor of Akron announced that he would no longer use Tim as an expert.
It’s his loss.
Tim Barfield is one of the few that truly cares but caring involves telling the truth and telling the truth should be at the heart of any expert in criminal justice.
The Code
Tim follows a code set thousands of years ago by the only Perfect Man that walked this planet, Jesus Christ…God.
It’s a code that offends many (John 15:18).
It’s a code that few have (Matthew 7:13-14).
But it is a code that will set you free (John 8:32).
Tim Barfield is free from what was done to him today because of that code.
A code that evil men could never understand (Proverbs 28:5)
Why God?
I’ve never understood anyone that treats other humans like this media outlet (that isn’t worth mentioning) did. It’s happened to me, my friends, and it will keep happening.
A few minutes after I saw the article, I sat down for my morning routine. This was my (previously) scheduled Bible Reading for the day and I believe the Grace of a Loving God gave Tim and myself a message:
“The enemy has come to an end in perpetual ruins…The Lord also will be a stronghold for the oppressed…a stronghold in times of trouble” (Psalm 9:6-10).
The truth matters and no amount of manipulation by a media outlet will change that.
I am thankful for leaders like Tim Barfield.
