The weight trainer accused of shooting his parents at their luxurious Long Island mansion attacked the couple during a custody dispute over his 1-year-old son, police said Wednesday, according to the New York Post.
Dino Tomassetti, 29, is being held without bail on two counts of attempted murder stemming from a “verbal dispute” that escalated with the Christmas Day violence, according to court documents.
Tomassetti was hauled back to Nassau County after being collared in New Jersey, hours after reportedly fleeing the crime scene.
At Wednesday’s press conference, police said Tomassetti had started arguing with his parents at about 10 a.m. Saturday.
However, the family spat took a near-deadly turn when Tomassetti allegedly tried to leave the home with the child.
“When the parents objected, the defendant produced a .22-caliber pistol,” Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said.

NEW YORK — A Brooklyn bodybuilder has been identified as a suspect accused of shooting his Long Island parents at their mansion Christmas morning, according to police.
The hulking perpetrator was identified as 29-year-old Dino Tomassetti. He is accused of shooting his 65-year-old father in the back and 64-year-old mother in the head at their tony Hewlett Harbor home just after 10 a.m. Saturday, according to Nassau County Police Department.
Rocco and Vincenza Tomassetti had to undergo surgery for their gunshot wounds. The father is said to be in more serious condition of the two, New York Post reported.
Real estate records show the 8,751-square foot mansion owned by the construction magnate and his wife is valued at $3.2 million, according to the Daily Mail.
Dino — a 5-foot-9-inch, 235-pound muscleman — fled to New Jersey in a Cadillac Escalade after the shootings, police sources told the Daily Voice.

The New York State Police tracked his vehicle by GPS. They contacted Mahwah Police Department for assistance when the younger Tomassetti reached that area, according to law enforcement sources.
Police collared Dino without incident just after 2 p.m., sources told the Voice.

He will remain in custody in Bergen County, charged as a fugitive from justice, pending extradition to Nassau County, according to the news outlet.
The New York charges will ultimately depend on the condition of his parents.

The Tomasetti family is part of a construction dynasty formed by the late Dino Tomassetti Sr., an Italian immigrant whose chain of Laquila companies helped shape New York City’s skyline, the Daily Mail reported.
Their projects include the Goldman Sachs headquarters near Ground Zero and the Bank of America headquarters, among others. His son Rocco’s Empire Transit Mix company provided the concrete for the Freedom Tower and his daughter’s company contributed to structure development.
