Asheville, North Carolina – Located in the heartbeat of the Blue Ridge Mountains is one of the most beautiful cities in the country. Whether it is music, hiking, art, or water, there is never a shortage of entertainment or relaxation in Asheville, North Carolina.

When it comes to law enforcement, there is not only an increase in opportunity but Chief Mike Lamb is working tirelessly to ensure that those wearing the badge have the support and pay to remain in Asheville for a long time.

Lamb has always been a North Carolina native and as a 26 year veteran of the Asheville Police Department, he is a leader that is invested in the community. Prior to becoming chief in February, Lamb held several ranks and served in various assignments. This experience has given him the unique ability to not only understand the community that he serves but the needs of those working for him.

Congressman Chuck Edwards represents North Carolina’s 11th District and he praises Chief Lamb for his steadfast approach to hiring the best for the community.

On June 11, 2024, the City Council approved a 6% pay increase for the agency, which will also enhance Lamb’s effort to make Asheville a city that will represent the best our profession has to offer.

Chief Lamb tells Law Officer that the salary increase will continue to help the “rebuilding” of the Asheville Police Department.

Lamb relates that the “increase, effective from July 1, along with prior incentives, aims to enhance competitiveness with neighboring cities, making it easier to attract, recruit, and retain officers. It also acknowledges the dedication and sacrifices of our officers in striving for excellence in service and community safety. We remain committed to collaborating with the City Council to improve officer wages and benefits further, crucial for retaining and attracting both recruits and lateral transfer.”

If you have visited Asheville, you know what we mean when we say awe inspiring beauty and with dedicated leadership supporting a great law enforcement agency, the best is yet to come.
