Law enforcement trainers serve a critical role in public safety. The challenges confronting today's officers are unprecedented and only through quality training can we provide officers with the skills they need to be both effective and safe. A trainer's ability, commitment and leadership greatly impact officers in the field, yet this vital role is often overlooked within individual police departments and policing as a whole.

Each year, Law Officer demonstrates its commitment to training through its Trainer of the Year Award, which honors an individual who has demonstrated outstanding skills and made lasting contributions to the law

enforcement profession.

Eligibility
This award is open to active law enforcement trainers. A nomination must be submitted by an individual who has direct knowledge of the nominee's skills and abilities. The winner will be selected based on the following criteria:

Training ability: Nominees should be outstanding in their ability to train and convey the core objectives of their subject. They should be innovative and demonstrate a commitment to maintaining their skills and knowledge by staying current on developing techniques and technologies.

Leadership: Nominees should have a demonstrated ability to lead by example, inspiration and dedication.

Safety: Nominees will be known for conducting training that includes adequate safeguards to minimize the chance of preventable injuries.

Interpersonal communication: Nominees should exhibit strong interpersonal communication skills.

Long-term commitment: Nominees should have a demonstrated history of providing or facilitating quality training and be known for going the extra distance to serve the law enforcement community. Service

beyond assigned duties is noteworthy and will be strongly considered.

Selection Process

Representatives from Law Officer and ILEETA will review the nominations and select the annual recipient.

Award Details

The award will be presented at the annual ILEETA International Training Conference and Expo. The winner will receive $1,000 and a trophy.
