Pennsylvania State Police shot and killed a man in Lower Mount Bethel Township who had threatened to blow himself up with what was described as an explosive device around his neck.
Troopers were called to a home at 1382 Good Road at 10:09 a.m. for a man threatening suicide, D’Ambrosio said.
Anthony Paul Ardo, 47, was present and troopers observed a device with a fuse around Ardo’s neck as he sat in a car. Ardo refused the troopers’ repeated commands to get out of the car and on the ground.
Two troopers fired when Ardo tried to light the fuse. The device turned out to be a firework.
Ardo was pronounced dead at St. Luke’s Hospital-Anderson Campus in Bethlehem Township.
