General George A. Joulwan
Following his two combat tours in Vietnam, General Joulwan served in the Pentagon in a number of roles, most notably as Executive Officer for the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff. He also served in the White House as a Special Assistant to the President of the United States. Prior to his Pentagon and White House duty, he served 18 years in Europe.
General Joulwan was the first Supreme Allied Commander Europe to command at every level in the Alliance, from platoon, company, battalion, brigade, division, corps and Supreme Commander. Perhaps most notably, General Joulwan was a Second Lieutenant in Germany during the building of the Berlin Wall and was a Lieutenant General in command of V Corps in the Fulda Gap when the Berlin Wall and Iron Curtain were torn down.
General Joulwan graduated from West Point in 1961 and from the Infantry Basic Course, Armored Career Course, Command and General Staff and the War Colleges. He received a Master’s Degree in Political Science and was a member of the faculty at Loyola University in Chicago.
Robert J. McGuire, ESQ.
Robert J. McGuire is the former New York City Police Commissioner, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pinkerton’s Inc., and former President of Kroll Associates, Inc., an international corporate investigations and security consulting firm. Mr. McGuire is a lawyer with a broad range of governmental and private sector experience. As an Assistant United States Attorney, he prosecuted criminal cases in the Southern District of New York. Following this achievement, he established his own law firm of McGuire and Lawler, which specialized in white collar investigations.
At 41 years of age, Mr. McGuire became the youngest Police Commissioner in the City’s history. Mr. McGuire was appointed Special Master by the New York County District Attorney to oversee the Gambino family’s exit from the garment industry. He presently serves as the Monitor for all Bovis Lend Lease construction projects in New York City.
Mr. McGuire attended Iona College (B.A. Magna Cum Laude) and Saint John’s University Law School (J.D. Cum Laude), where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review, and also received an LL.M. from New York University Law School under a Ford Foundation Fellowship.
Daniel E. O’Donnell
Daniel E. O’Donnell was Vice President, Assistant General Counsel and Secretary of International Business Machines Corporation from 1998 until his retirement in 2008. In this position, he was responsible for supporting the IBM Board of Directors and communications with IBM shareholders. He was also responsible for managing the IBM Law Department and the IBM Security Department.
Mr. O’Donnell joined IBM in 1974 as an attorney in the legal department. He subsequently held a variety of IBM legal positions, including attorney in Tokyo and Hong Kong, regional counsel for the Data Processing Division in Atlanta, counsel for the General Products Division in San Jose, senior counsel for Europe, Middle East and Africa operations, headquartered in Paris, and lead counsel for the PC Company. He was named managing attorney in corporate headquarters in 1991, and general counsel for IBM North America in 1997.
Mr. O’Donnell graduated from Holy Cross College in 1969 and from William and Mary Law School in 1974.
Robert C. Shaler Ph.D.
In June 2010 Robert Shaler, professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, retired after having served as the founding director of the Penn State Forensic Science Program in 2005. As the Director of Forensic Biology at the OCME in New York, Dr. Shaler is well known for supervising the massive DNA-testing effort to identify thousands of victims of the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks. He is the author of Who They Were: Inside the World Trade Center DNA Story: The Unprecedented Effort to Identify the Missing (2005.)
In addition to teaching and doing research, Dr. Shaler has served as a forensic-science consultant for government agencies and professional organizations. He was a member of the American Bar Association Task Force on Biological Evidence and was an author of a 2009 National Research Council (NRC) report, Strengthening the Forensic Sciences — A Path Forward, published by the National Academy of Sciences. He also was a member of the National Research Council’s Review of the Scientific Approaches used During the FBI’s Investigation of the 2001 Anthrax Letters.
Gene Washington
Gene Washington presently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Goodrich Petroleum Company, AutoReturn, Delia’s, GP Strategies, and Beacon House. Mr. Washington began his career as a player for the San Francisco 49ers (1969 to 1977) and then the Detroit Lions (1978 to 1979.) Since then, he has continued to be influential in the world of sports. Mr. Washington was the Assistant Athletic Director at Stanford University for two years before becoming the Director of Football Operations for the National Football League.
Following his career as a football player, Mr. Washington became a commentator, reporter and show host on several radio and television sports shows. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors for numerous business and civic organizations and was also a member of the Advisory Council for the California State Food and Nutrition and the Chairman of the Special Olympics (San Francisco Bay Area.) Mr. Washington has been a member of several social organizations, including San Francisco’s The Bohemian Club and the Olympic Club and The Los Angeles Country Club.
Mr. Washington graduated from Stanford University in 1969 where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
