Tucson, Arizona: The Nancy Guthrie disappearance investigation is entering a critical phase as federal and local authorities pursue new leads tied to surveillance evidence recovered from her home. Guthrie, 84, the mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since late January, and investigators say the case remains active and evolving.

On Tuesday, FBI Director Kash Patel said the Bureau is looking at multiple persons of interest, citing recent progress driven by technical capabilities and partnerships. Patel did not publicly identify anyone, and authorities have emphasized that a person of interest is not the same as a charged suspect.

Investigators say one of the most significant developments has been the recovery of previously inaccessible doorbell camera footage from Guthrie’s home. The FBI released images and video showing a masked individual who appears armed approaching and tampering with the camera in the early morning hours of Feb. 1, according to reporting based on law enforcement briefings and released materials.

Late Tuesday into early Wednesday, a person was detained for questioning in Rio Rico, Arizona, as investigators executed a court-authorized search connected to the case.

Multiple outlets reported that the person detained was later released without charges. One report identified the man as a delivery driver who said he was stopped during a traffic stop and questioned for hours before being released, while law enforcement did not confirm all details publicly.

The FBI has publicly framed the investigation as ongoing and evidence-driven, with officials asking the public to focus on tips connected to the released images and timeline.

At the same time, public messaging has differed across updates. Some local reporting has cited an FBI spokesperson saying the Bureau had not identified suspects or persons of interest as of earlier updates, even as Patel later said agents are evaluating multiple persons of interest based on recent progress. That gap likely reflects timing and the fast-moving nature of major investigations, but it also underscores how little is confirmed publicly while investigators work leads behind the scenes.

Authorities are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Guthrie’s recovery or arrests connected to the case, according to Entertainment Weekly and other reporting summarizing law enforcement statements. The FBI has also continued to circulate images and appeals for tips as the investigation stretches into its second week.
