Law Officer Magazine presented Streamlight Inc. with the 2009 Gold Badge of Service Award on Jan. 19, during the 2010 SHOT Show in Las Vegas. The award ceremony took place at Streamlight s conference booth. Law Officer Editor-in-Chief Dale Stockton presented Streamlight s newly appointed CEO, Ray Sharrah, with the award.
This annual award recognizes a company that best exhibits a model of commitment and service to the law enforcement community. We are honored and very appreciative of the recognition, Sharrah said.
Its products demonstrate a true understanding of the needs of our profession and their generosity has proven invaluable in helping devastated police families get their lives back on track, Stockton said on behalf of Elsevier Public Safety, which publishes Law Officer.
A Commitment to Service & Customers
Streamlight, which manufactures premier lighting tools for public safety, has shown its willingness to support the police family in a very tangible way by donating to the Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS). The mission of COPS is to assist in rebuilding the lives of surviving families and affected co-workers of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
Suzie Sawyer, a founder of COPS, explained what Streamlight has meant to their organization: Streamlight came to COPS when the organization was expanding. The need was great and there wasn t a lot of hope and there wasn t a lot of money to make it happen. Not only did Streamlight help us meet the need, they have helped us in so many other ways including helping us find other resources. Their employees always participate in our events and it s really been the whole Streamlight family that s been helping COPS.
Streamlight has been supporting COPS since 1998 and its donations total well over $300,000 plus a ton of product provided to survivors.
We ve been involved with COPS for more than 10 years. It s our primary charity, says Brad Penney, who recently retired from his position as Streamlight s CEO, but is still acting as a consultant for the company. After attending Police Week, when COPS was just starting out, we were introduced to Suzie. We got involved immediately. We really believe in what they do because it makes an immediate positive difference in the lives of survivors.
Streamlight, now in its 36th year, is known throughout the public safety market as an innovative and responsive manufacturer. The company strives to support the mission of first responders, and its product line reflects a genuine understanding of the challenges faced by law officers because they work in a 24/7 environment.
I carried a Streamlight SL-20 rechargeable (one of the first practical rechargeable lights) for many years when I worked patrol and K-9. It was a great tool and one that helped me in many situations, Stockton said.
Streamlight was also one of many invaluable partners whenLaw Officerorganized Project Inspire, a relief effort that supported hundreds of officers after Hurricane Katrina. Streamlight has repeatedly shown that it listens and delivers truly the sign of a reliable partner and a trait that law officers really appreciate.
We are very humbled by this award and are proud to be honored, Penney said. To be recognized for improving the lives of the people we serve , it s just an honor.
