Wilmington, Delaware – Three Wilmington officers were shot late Wednesday on a call. Authorities have only said that officers were present at a “call for service” when they were shot by the suspect. Occurring in an apartment complex, police issued a “shelter in place” order overnight as SWAT members arrived on the scene.
A fire ladder was used to enter a third-floor apartment through a window early Thursday morning, and helped a child and a woman descend the ladder. At 10 a.m., loud bangs were reported and shortly afterwards the SWAT Team left the area and the shelter in place order was lifted.
Police say there was no immediate threat to the public but did not give any details about the shooting suspect or whether any arrests were made.
The officers were listed in “stable” condition, the Wilmington Police Department said in a release.
Fraternal Order of Police President Greg Ciotti said that the three officers were hospitalized in stable condition and two were going to undergo surgery for their wounds.
