UPDATE: Deputy Chief Ed Brady of the Arvada Police Department said a veteran officer initially responded to a call about a “suspicious incident” near a library.
Within minutes, 911 calls were made about possible shots fired and an officer being struck by gunfire, he told reporters during a press conference. Another person, possibly a bystander, was fatally shot by a gunman, who was also killed, Brady said.
Police have not released the identification of anyone involved in the deadly shooting, Fox News reported.
ARVADA, Colo. — A Colorado police officer was injured and second person was shot on Monday in the Denver suburb of Arvada, according to reports.
The Arvada Police Department confirmed an officer was down following a shooting in the city’s Old Town district just before 1 p.m. Consequently, a CodeRED was issued advising citizens in the area to shelter in place, KDVR-TV reported.
The injured officer was taken to a hospital. The cause and extent of the injuries were not disclosed.
Authorities said there were two possible suspects, the news station reported. Live footage of the crime scene showed a person down, but it was not clear who this person is.
A live report from KDVR also said a police officer was killed, although details were not provided as investigators try to piece the investigation together.
At the time of publication it was not clear if the police agency has one wounded and one deceased officer, or if they are one in the same.
Arvada Police Department said they’ll hold a press conference later in the day.

Megan Scharf who lives nearby told KDVR she heard three gunshots and saw multiple police vehicles and ambulances, as well as one vehicle that may have been the coroner.
This is a developing story.
