Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Chief Troy Riggs announced his resignation Wednesday after less than a year on the force, triggering a shake-up in leadership as Mayor Joe Hogsett pushes for sweeping reforms within the city’s criminal justice system.
An emotional Riggs stood with Hogsett in a news conference, during which he cited financial concerns as a key reason for his departure. The police chief’s annual salary is $117,187.20.

“I leave with no animosity, only hope and promise for what this city is going to accomplish,” said Riggs, 50, adding that he is not seeking another law enforcement position.
It’s unclear what Riggs’ next role will be. He said he has “offers on the table,” but he declined to discuss it further.
