Group mandates that Portland police must put offenders at ease

In a unanimous recommendation, a community group appointed by the Mayor to oversee the Portland Police Department says that whenever a police officer pulls over a suspect, they must give their full name, explain the reason for the stop and ask if they can do anything to put the offender at ease.

“This recommendation would radically change the interactions at stops or searches by laying out everything about the stop,” said Lakayana Drury, co-chair of the Committee on Community-Engaged Policing. “The Portland Police Bureau under Chief Outlaw has championed procedural justice. This recommendation would put that into practice.’’

COURAGEOUS LEADERSHIP SEMINAR

According to Oregon Live, Police Chief Jami Resch, who took over for Outlaw on December 31st said that she will look into the idea but Officer Daryl Turner, the head of the police union, said police already do most of these things.

Portland Police currently requires officers to display their badge and name tag on their uniform, identify themselves by name and offer their police business card when responding to an emergency call, making a stop or conducting an investigation but if safety wold be compromised it is not a requirement.

That according to Major Travis Yates, Author of “The Courageous Police Leader: A Survival Guide to Combating Cowards, Chaos & Lies“, is the norm around the country.

“I really chalk this ridiculous mandate in the ‘it will never be enough’ category” according to Yates.

Yates said that “this has nothing to do with law enforcement and common sense but rather just another way to ‘catch’ law enforcement in some sort of procedural issue where these so called reformers can scream more and scream is about all they are good for when they are discussing silly issues.”

MIAMI IS THE TOP PLACE FOR NFL ARRESTS AND THE MEDIA CALLS IT RACIST

In typical fashion, the community group used the tired and old claim that “African Americans are stopped at twice the rate as whites” but as Yates has said time and time again, comparing police activity to the Census is the dumbest idea ever.

A quick look at the crime in Portland shows it to be one of the highest areas for violence in the entire state with violence wrecking havoc on the community at a rate 83% higher than the rest of the state.

Dialing closer in to that violence finds African Americans committing robbery at a rate 8 times higher and half of all homicides are committed by blacks while they only make up 5% of the population.

So that begs the question.  What idiot would believe that one particular race would be responsible for violence at a significantly higher rate in a city and the police activity would not reflect that but rather what the Census says?

Well, let us answer that question for you.

It happens to be this so called “Community Group” assigned by Mayor Ted Wheeler to run the Portland Police Department.

God help that agency……
