Trooper Daniel Barrett of the Indiana State Police was killed while he was traveling northbound on U.S. 31 near Rochester in Fulton County. While attempting to catch up to a speeding motorist, Barrett's patrol car left the roadway and struck a tree on the driver's door, causing fatal injuries. Barrett had served with the Indiana State Police for only six months and was assigned to the Peru post. He had previously served as a correctional officer for the Indiana Department of Correction. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
