LOS ANGELES — Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner, was taken into custody Monday morning, according to online jail records cited by TMZ, as detectives continue investigating the deaths of Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Brentwood home.
Law enforcement officials have not publicly announced an arrest in the case or identified a suspect, and the circumstances surrounding Nick Reiner’s custody status were not immediately clear. As late as Sunday night, police said they had not detained anyone and were not naming a person of interest while the investigation was still in its early stages.
Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were found dead Sunday afternoon at their residence on Chadbourne Avenue, police and fire officials said. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical aid request shortly after 3:30 p.m. and discovered a man and a woman deceased inside the home.
A law enforcement official briefed on the investigation told The Associated Press that investigators believed the couple suffered stab wounds and that a family member was being questioned. The Los Angeles Times also reported that police interviewed a family member and that investigators found no sign of forced entry, citing sources with knowledge of the case.

Conflicting accounts emerged overnight about whether anyone was being held. PEOPLE magazine reported that detectives were questioning Nick Reiner but quoted police as saying no arrests had been made and that no one was in custody. ABC News similarly reported that officials said Sunday night they had not identified a suspect and that nobody was in custody at that time.
By Monday morning, TMZ reported that Nick Reiner was listed as being in the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, based on online records. Authorities have not explained whether the custody listing reflects an arrest related to the homicide investigation, detention on an unrelated matter, or another legal status such as a temporary hold.
