The International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA) conducts its annual Training Conference and Expo April 1 5 at the Westin Chicago North Shore in Wheeling, Ill.
Focusing on officer safety and improving instruction and training, the conference offers 25 instructor or armorer certification courses and more than 110 additional courses taught by law enforcement experts, including Alexis Artwohl, Wes Doss, Charles Humes, Gary Klugiewicz, Bill Lewinski, John Meyer, Ken Murray, Laura Scarry and Dave Spaulding. Course topics include such diverse subjects as advances in TASER training, civil liability, handcuffing, deadly force issues, EVOC training, ethics, and PowerPoint techniques. In addition, a vendor expo held April 1 2 provides the opportunity to view the latest in law enforcement technology.
The opening ceremony features Craig Floyd, executive director of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF). A special general session, free to law enforcement officers and their significant others, features Best Practices in Law Enforcement Training presented by renowned speaker and legal expert Randy Means. He ll discuss the increasingly complex legal challenges to police operations. Additionally, The Bulletproof Mind, taught by Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman, will be free to law enforcement. Grossman, an expert on conflict psychology, will address psychological and physiological preparations for combat.
Other conference activities include the World Cop Donut Eating Championship and The Flatfoot Five, a 5k fun run/walk. All funds raised from these special events will benefit the NLEOMF and the ILEETA Scholarship Fund. ILEETA will also conduct three events on March 31: the International Iron Cop Competition, the ILEETA Cup and the International Police Driving Competition.
