The City of Bexley is currently trying to fill a vacancy for Full-Time Police Dispatcher and build an ongoing list of candidates interested in a career in communications as a Police Dispatcher.

Salary Information: The starting base rate of pay for those with no prior experience is $24.15 per hour, annualized at $50,232.00. The pay range for this position is $50,232.00 – $68,057.60. Rates of pay are determined through union contract with The Fraternal Order of Police/Ohio Labor Council, Inc.

Department/City Overview: Bexley has a population of 13,000 residents, with over 4,000 households in the City. It is geographically compact, located within a 2.5 square mile footprint. Bexley is ten minutes east of downtown, Columbus, Ohio’s capital city. The city operates under a Mayor- City Council.
Led by Police Chief Larry Rinehart, the police department has 31 sworn officers, 4 police dispatchers and 1 administrative support staff member.
Bexley Police Dispatchers are assigned to the Communication Center which is overseen by the Administrative Sergeant. Bexley Police Dispatchers in collaboration with other local agencies utilizes the Next Generation 911 technology. In addition, Bexley Police Dispatchers are the primary point of contact for police related calls, deploy officers to emergency and non-emergency calls, handle lobby requests, and perform clerical tasks.

Qualifications :

Must be able to obtain LEADS certification and Notary License within 6 months of employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Knowledge of the City of Bexley and surrounding areas; police department policies/procedures, city organizations and functions, FCC rules and regulations, and police terminology.
Skill in radio operations and related equipment: Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD); telephone; two-way radio; CAD; LEADS; copy machine; fax machine; recorders.
