WCTV reports that the second officer shot by a suspect in Americus (GA) on Wednesday has died.
Georgia Southwestern State University Officer Jodi Smith was initially airlifted from the scene in critical condition following the shooting that killed 25-year-old Americus Police Officer Nicholas Smarr.
Officer Smith, 26, passed away from his injuries on Thursday.
Both had been officers since 2012. The officers were reportedly best friends and had graduated from high school and the police academy together.
Police say the suspect in the deadly shooting, 32-year-old Minquell Kennedy Lembrick, barricaded himself inside a home on Thursday morning before taking his own life.
