Police who were checking on the welfare of Renee Davis, 23, arrived at her home on the Muckleshoot reservation to find her armed with a handgun, with two young children in the house. It’s unclear exactly what happened next, but two deputies fired their weapons, striking her at least once and killing her, the Seattle Times reports.
“They tried repeatedly to get somebody to come to the door, nobody did. But, they could see the two kids running around inside the house,” King County Sheriff Dept. Sgt. Cindi West told KOMO News. West said officers “found her in the house and she was armed with a handgun.”
Davis had a history of depression and was five months pregnant with her fourth child, said her foster sister Danielle Bargala. She had three other children, ages 2, 3, and 5.
