Memphis, TN. – Memphis Police Officer Scotty Triplett has died after a vehicle collision that occurred on Saturday afternoon. Triplett, a 27 year veteran was conducting an agency approves escort with other officers at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Saturday passed away after a car crash in East Memphis.
MPD confirmed that the officer was Scotty Triplett, a 27-year-veteran.
According to MPD, the crash happened during a department approved escort with other officers around 4:45 pm Saturday.
The department confirmed that Officer Triplett was in “emergency mode” at the time of crash. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but he did not survive the injuries.
The details surrounding the collision have not been released. The driver of the vehicle that struck Triplett was detained and later released.
Law enforcement escorts typically involve motorcycle units that clear traffic for various events such as dignitary protection and funerals.
