A 10-year civilian employee of the Manhattan Beach (CA) Police Department was killed in Sunday’s mass shooting in Las Vegas and an off-duty officer was shot and wounded, police said.
Rachael Parker, 33, a records technician, was shot during the Route 91 Harvest festival and died in a hospital, according to a news release. Records show she lived in Long Beach, and her family resides in Spokane, Washington.
“She was employed with the Manhattan Beach Police Department for 10 years and will be greatly missed,” the department said.
A sworn officer also was shot and sustained minor injuries, but was not named.
Both were with a group of four off-duty Manhattan Beach police employees who attended the country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip. The two other civilian employees were unharmed.
At least 59 people were killed and more than 500 were injured when a gunman opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino after 10 p.m. Sunday.
