Louisville Metro police confirm that the fallen officer is Detective Jason Schweitzer.
Lexington police say the two men were hit by a black Dodge Charger while standing on the side of the road asking for directions.
The driver, Suzanne Whitlow, 26, has been charged with two counts of 2nd degree manslaughter and one count of DUI.
Schweitzer began his career with the Jefferson County Police Department in 2001. He had also served as the vice president of the River City Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 614 since 2010.
A family member said Schweitzer and his wife were expecting their second child.
