A Ohio father who punched his 3-month-old daughter to death was sentenced Thursday to eight years in prison.
Shavale Johnson, 25, punched his young daughter in April, 2014, according to court documents. Police said Johnson punched the baby because she would not stop crying.
Months after the incident, Johnson was found incompetent to stand trial in his daughter’s death. He was later found to be competent, and pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
Officials said Johnson will receive credit for 822 days in which he has already spent in prison. Upon Johnson’s release, he will remain on post-release control for five years.
