ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Court documents show a former Anchorage police officer accused of being an illegal immigrant plans to plead guilty to federal charges.
Mexico-born Rafael Mora-Lopez, who lived for years in Alaska as Rafael Espinoza, says in court papers filed Thursday he will plead guilty to charges of passport fraud and false claim of U.S. citizenship.
Authorities say the real Rafael Espinoza is a legal U.S. citizen and also holds citizenship in another unspecified country.
Mora-Lopez worked as a police officer until his arrest in April. He pleaded not guilty to passport fraud. He has been out on bail under home confinement and electronic monitoring.
A court hearing is scheduled for June 1.
