Omaha – A 6-year-old girl was critically hurt after being hit by a stray bullet on New Year’s Eve, according to Omaha police.
Officers responded to the scene around 11:12 p.m. Tuesday, near 26th and Blondo streets as reported by KETV.
The girl was found with a gunshot wound to her leg. Police applied a tourniquet to the girl’s leg before first responders took the child to the hospital.
Investigators believe the bullet came through a window.
“It’s unfortunate,” said Lieutenant Queño Martinez. “We say it every year. Fireworks are okay, but it’s that celebratory gunfire, anything like that that happens can lead to something like this. An innocent person got struck through a window. It’s something that should never, ever happen.”
