SALT LAKE CITY — A man is accused of trying to strangle a police dog that caught him stealing personnel documents from Sears in Murray.
In charges filed Monday, police wrote that the man, 51, was found March 31 hiding next to the computers in the surveillance security room at the store, 6191 S. State St. The man struck the K-9, Kasch, several times and grabbed Kasch around the neck in an attempt to strangle the dog, police wrote.
The man was found with a large stack of employee personal information, including W-4 forms and Social Security numbers, police wrote. A glass door also was broken in the burglary.
The man faces third-degree felony counts of burglary, criminal mischief and unlawful possession of another s identification documents; and a misdemeanor charge of interfering with a police service animal.
