How to Implement a License Plate Recognition Program

Many law enforcement agencies across the country are recognizing license plate recognition (LPR) as an invaluable tool in the recovery of stolen vehicles and the apprehension of car thieves. Once the technology is installed and used, agencies immediately realize that they are able to solve crimes using LPR technology that they may not have otherwise been able to solve. 

This webcast will explore LPR technology and provide valuable information regarding the purchase and implementation of LPR systems. We will cover several topics, including funding mechanisms to purchase LPR equipment, the procurement process, and the implementation of both mobile and fixed LPR systems. In addition to these important topics, we will also discuss the benefits of LPR use and discuss various crimes that agencies have been able to solve using this technology. As a result of this webcast, you will have an understanding of the technology and the best practices for the purchase, deployment and successful use of LPR. 

  • Captain Scot Haug  serves as the second in command for the Post Falls (Idaho) Police Department. He is a member of the National Institute of Justice, Communication Technology Working Group, and holds the Advanced, Management and Instructor’s certifications for the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training Council. He is also a graduate of the 201st Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. 

    Captain Haug has consulted with agencies across the country in several technology related matters, including the use of LPR. He is responsible for implementing many of the city’s emergency services technology programs. Captain Haug’s technology projects have been featured in such magazines as  Computer World CEO 9-1-1, and Harvard University Government Innovators Network. He has also authored several articles regarding technology in law enforcement and has been a guest speaker at numerous training events to discuss law enforcement technology.
