Texas Officer, Shot in Face, Captures Gunman
Stafford officer Ann Carrizalez was wounded while doing a traffic stop
(WJLA) - Police officers are sworn to do all they can to protect and serve, and there's very little that can stand in their way in most cases.
For an officer in Texas this past weekend, not even a gunshot to the face was going to stop her from chasing and capturing a suspect.
Ann Carrizalez, a police officer in Stafford, Texas and an ex-United States Marine, was attempting to pull over a car at about 4 a.m. Saturday when the passenger in the suspect car pulled out a gun and started firing.
Carrizalez was hit twice - once in a her bulletproof vest and once in the face. Wounded and in serious pain, the officer still managed to return fire as the suspects sped away. As if that was going to stop her, though, Carrizalez proceeded to engage in a high-speed chase.
"I was born to be a protector," she said. "I always have been a protector."
She was able to chase the suspects for 7 minutes through the streets of the town, which is southwest of Houston, before three suspects bailed out and ran into an apartment building. It was there where 21-year-old Sergio Rodrigues, the purported shooter, was taken into custody.
Two other men, though - Freddy Henriquez and Daniel Cruz - are still being sought.
Despite her injuries, Carrizalez is expected to be just fine; she even was able to go trick-or-treating with her children on Halloween.
"I just want to give myself some time to relax and kind of feel the beauty of life that I was blessed to have," she said.Tags: News
