Police Training Coordinator

About the Job

Job Description

The purpose of this position is to coordinate, train and prepare basic Police recruits to become state licensed peace officers.  This is accomplished by teaching Police related courses, identifying and recruiting potential instructors, developing course content, writing performance appraisals for students and conducting physical fitness training.  Other duties include instructing in-service training, facilitating group discussions and practicals and developing class and training schedules.  General duties and responsibilities include:

  • Teaches Police related courses by preparing curriculum per mandates; preparing classroom instruction materials, graphic aids and outlines; using relevant computer and A/V equipment; instructing students and developing testing instruments to ensure the quality of instruction.
  • Develops course content by maintaining knowledge of current trends in Policing, TCLEOSE required courses and legislative changes; developing lesson plans for changes and additions; exploring new areas of training and developing relevant lesson plans.
  • Writes performance appraisals for students by monitoring student progress; making note of proficiencies and deficiencies in training progress; completing progress report forms and sending copies of the progress reports to the agency.
  • Conducts physical fitness training by performing physical fitness protocols with recruit officers; preparing recruits for defensive tactics practicals and participating with basic classes in physical and defensive tactics training.
  • Instructs in-service training. 
  • Develops class and training schedules by contacting instructors; designing schedules to match curriculum needs.

 

 

Required Skills Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree in a related field of study along with a minimum of 5-7 years of law enforcement experience.  Must possess a TCLEOSE Basic Instructor's License or Certificate, Defensive Tactics Instructor certificate, and Advanced Peace Officer Certification.  Ideal applicant shouldl be proficient in basic computer skills and software used in classroom technology.
