The Grand Prairie Police Department is continually seeking diverse, highly motivated, community-oriented officers with integrity, who are willing to face a variety of challenges and responsibilities. Grand Prairie is the 16th largest city in the state of Texas. Grand Prairie has a total area of 81.5 square miles in three counties. In 2007 our department responded to 127,757 calls for service. The 223 sworn officers and 101 civilians employed by the Grand Prairie Police Department are committed to providing our diverse and growing community of 178,000 citizens with world class service.

Applicant Requirements:

· U.S. Citizen 21 - 44 years of age

Have a high school diplomaG.E.D. with 60 accredited college credit hours; (Accreditation must be from one of the six regional associations of colleges and schools as follows: MSACHE, NEACHE, NCACHE, NWASC, SACSCC or WASC);

OR

· Three years full active military service of active military experience with an honorable discharge

OR

Eligible for certification from TCLEOSE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standard and Education) and two years prior peace officer experience for a city, county, state or federal law enforcement agency (Military Police experience is not considered regular full-time peace officer experience)

After completing the 21 week academy, 3 week in-service training and 17 week field training program, newly hired police officers will be assigned to patrol duties for a minimum of 2 years before being eligible for other assignments. Interested officers may wish to expand the range of experience by transferring into other fields available to them such as Detectives, Traffic Enforcement, Community Service, Training, Tactical Team and many others.

Applicants must have a general capacity to perform tasks required of peace officers, including (but not limited to) capability of unassisted performance of physical agility tasks reflective of peace officer duties. These will include capacity to run, jump, turn, pivot, stoop, climb, and execute similar movements; push, lift, remove, install, and otherwise handle objects and persons weighing 50-200 pounds, and subdue resisting individuals by exercise of physical force so as to take into custody and transport them against their will

Copy of an official transcript demonstrating 60 hours

OR

Copy of Peace Officer License

DD-214 demonstrating honorable discharge



Salary Information:$50,100 - $68,826
