Job Description

The City Gresham Police Department is currently accepting applications for Police Officer. The application deadline is December 31, 2011; all candidates must fill out the City application at www.greshamoregon.gov before the deadline. All testing through National Testing Network must be completed and submitted by end of business day January 15, 2012. The salary range for the position of Police Officer, per the FY 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Gresham Police Department is as follows: GRESHAM POLICE OFFICER'S BASE PAY PER MONTH EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2011

Job Requirements:
Age: 21 years of age
US Citizen
High School Grad/GED
Valid OREGON State Driver's License
Ability to Read and Speak the English Language
Vision: Correctable to 20/40
Academy Certification:
For entry level candidates – successful completion of the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards And Training recruit academy after hire.

For Felony, Criminal Activity, Driving, Drug Use, Employment, Financial or Additional Disqualifiers:
Gresham Uses a complex matrix system to be utilized during initial screening and detailed background investigation to determine eligibility for hire.
Qualifications:
Federal, state, county, and City laws, regulations, and ordinances.
- Criminal behavior and causes underlying criminality and social, psychological and physical needs of criminals.
- Standard police practices, methods, and procedures.
- Safety standards, procedures, and precautions utilized in police activities.
- Methods of investigation, apprehension, and rules of evidence.
- Basic first aid and CPR procedures.
- Principles and techniques of modern crime prevention, investigation, apprehension, rules of evidence, and all other aspects of law enforcement.
- Principles and techniques of skillfully and safely using firearms and other police-related tools.
- Methods of handling persons physically resisting arrest.
- Principles of communication to clearly and concisely relay information, both orally and in writing.
- Techniques to maintain composure under adverse conditions such as public harassment, critical injuries, and death.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and citizens from a variety of racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.
- Analyze situations quickly and objectively and to recognize actual and potential dangerous situations, and to determine proper course of action.
- Present evidence in court effectively; skill in observation and remembering details such as names, faces, and incidents.
- Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Minimum Qualifications for this position:
-High School diploma or G.E.D and 21 years of age by date of hire
-No felony criminal record
-Must be a US Citizen
-Good driving record
-Ability to pass pre-assessment suitability screening
-Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation
-Ability to pass a psychological, medical and drug screen exam

Department Overview
The Gresham Police Department currently maintains a staff of 114 sworn and 32 civilian full-time personnel, or approximately 1.1 Officers per 1,000 of the City's estimated population. This is not to say that there aren’t plenty of challenges to go around for Gresham’s Police Officers.



Salary Information:$52,236 - $69,912 annual base pay as of July 1, 2011

We provide the P.A.T. immediately after or before the computer (situational video)/written/reading exams. Read all the testing instructions carefully and be at the test facility 30 minutes prior to test time for some paperwork and briefing. The written/computer test takes about 2 hrs/10 minutes and the P.A.T. takes about an hour or longer. Wear your P.T. attire for all testing. If you have any questions, please call us at 866-563-3882.
