Duties:
The Police Officer protects property and persons on VA property, and enforces appropriate criminal codes and regulations. Assists patients, visitors and employees who require direction and/or physical assistance. Issues traffic citations and federal violation notices when necessary. Responds to crowd and riot control, bomb threats and search requests. Questions witnesses and principals in crimes reported on VA property. Arrests persons for offenses committed on VA property and transfers them to appropriate authorities for detention. Frequently works and patrols alone and without supervision in the outlying grounds and parking lots areas. Directs and assists persons to safety areas during fire, storm or other emergencies and takes prompt action to evacuate persons from dangerous areas.
The position is part of the Police Service within the Manchester Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Manchester, NH. This Service has jurisdiction over and provides law enforcement and security support for the medical center and four community based outpatient centers as well as any other properties under the control of the Veterans Administration in New Hampshire. Some of the duties include;

· Protecting the civil rights of individuals
· Insuring the security of diplomats, dignitaries, high-ranking Government officials and elected U.S. Government officials
· Performing initial and follow-up investigations of complaints, criminal activity and other incidents
· Performing traffic control for major chemical spills, hazardous waste spills and other events as necessary
· Investigating traffic accidents, industrial accidents and other accidents
· Performing initial and follow-up investigations of accidents to determine who, what and why the accident occurred
· Preparing accident reports
· Performing traffic patrol duties
· Issuing citations
· Enforcing the hospital parking regulations
· Performing initial investigations of all criminal activity (i.e. thefts, assaults and disorderly conduct)
· Responding to emergency and routine calls
· Pursuing and apprehending persons fleeing a crime scene or attempting to resist arrest
· Performing crowd control for various events
· Performing riot control and disaster relief
· Checking badges, decals, inspection decals and identification cards of incoming personnel and visitors
· Maintaining firearms, uniform and other issued equipment in good working order/condition
· Being proficient in and qualifying semiannually with issued service pistol
· Performing routine upkeep on patrol vehicle
· Performing other duties as assigned
Work schedule: Rotating 8 hour shifts weekends/holidays
Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.
