About the Job

Job Description

Duties:  Protects life and property at Morgan State University; enforces all rules and regulations set forth by Morgan State  University Board of Regents and the State of Maryland in accordance with the Maryland Annotated Code of Laws; patrols designated areas to identify and report safety hazards, detect violations of laws and ordinances, and identify wanted vehicles, persons, and unusual conditions; responds to calls for assistance and emergency service; takes action as directed; assists in preliminary and follow-up investigations by interviewing and obtaining statements; assists in collecting and preserving evidence; assist in surveillance and in serving warrants and summons; assists in the apprehension, detention, and processing of violators; performs searches, detains vehicles and persons, and makes arrest when institutional authority and Maryland State Certification are present; interacts with campus community and establishes rapport with public; operates a variety of communication equipment to obtain, report, and verify information; prepares and completes a variety of detailed reports and forms to support investigations; assists in the preparation of cases; appears and testifies in court; directs traffic; operates and utilizes a variety of law enforcement equipment, e.g., self defense tools and criminal detection devices; and performs other duties, as required.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED; Possession of a Maryland Class C or equivalent driver's license valid in the state of Maryland; satisfactory completion of a Maryland Police Academy program and successful completion of a Police Field Training program; certification as a sworn Police Officer recognized by the Maryland Police Training Commision.

Requirements: Knowledge of citizens rights and responsibilities; knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances; skill in detecting situations imperiling public safety; skill in operating emergency vehicles under all conditions; skill in the care and use of firearms, self defense tools, and criminal detection devices; ability to communicate effectively; ability to operate two way radios and telephones in  a variety of environments; ability to apply knowledge, experience, and reason to arrive at prompt and effective decisions for both routine and critical situations; ability to show sensitivity in interactions with a diverse population; ability to maintain composure and demonstrate restraint in stressful and dangerous situations; ability to perform extensive task; ability to lift, drag, and carry heavy objects; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to follow directions; ability to provide guidance and training to others; ability to respond to emergency situations requiring physical stamina and force; ability to enter and exit vehicles frequently and quickly; ability to work in and wear personal protective equipment; ability to conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations. .

Salary Information:$36,204-$59,796/year
