Salary Information: A Police Lateral starts as a Police Officer 2 at $4,854 monthly, progressing to Police Officer 1 one year after date of hire with successful completion of a 10 week Academy and a Field Training Officer program.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is currently authorized 647 sworn police officers. This includes authorizations for 78 Sergeant, 24 Lieutenant, and 7 Commander Positions.

Vision:
• Normal binocular vision.
• Far visual acuity correctable to 20/20 in each eye.
• Normal color vision. A pseudoisochromatic plate (PIP) test is administered to all candidates.
College Schooling Prior and Post Hiring:
You must have by the date of hire an Associate Degree or 60 college semester hours. A national or regional accrediting organization recognized by the United States Department of Education must accredit the school or institution granting the degree or credits. Candidates that do not meet educational minimums upon application must submit a statement from their school confirming that they are currently enrolled in a course of study that will allow the candidate to meet minimum qualifications upon date of hire.
A Bachelors Degree is desirable.
Academy Certification: Yes
Prior Experience: You must have at least three years of paid police officer experience as a patrol officer within the last five years. The Department may waive the requirement to have served as a patrol officer in certain circumstances. Experienced officers that have served three years as a patrol officer, but have subsequently been appointed or promoted to Detective or promoted to a supervisory position, could also satisfy the requirement.
• Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers: Any conviction of a felony crime.
• Any conviction of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
• Any conviction of a misdemeanor crime that would affect your ability to certify with the Colorado Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board. For a list of misdemeanors that will preclude police officer certification visit the POST website at:

• Any felony committed will be an automatic disqualifier unless as an adult the felony was committed as a juvenile. (An adult applicant committing a felony as an adult would be disqualified. If an adult committed a felony as a juvenile, the following circumstances will be considered: The applicant's age at time of the illegal act and the nature and severity of the offense).
• Any misdemeanor crime commission (excludes marijuana-related misdemeanors or those involving unlawful use of physical force) within the past 3 years.

CSPD does not follow NTN’s Human Relations re-test policy. The NTN policy conflicts with the City’s Civil Service Rules, which specify that scores used to create the Eligibility List, are valid for 12 months. These rules may not be waived.
CSPD allows candidates to retake the Physical Abilities Test (PAT) once during a 12 month period. If you fail your first attempt at the PAT, you may request to re-test. PAT re-tests must be paid for with CSPD Test Vouchers, which may be obtained by emailing Tammy Likovetz at likoveta@ci.colospgs.co.us.
