NDI’s Veriplate is a user-friendly LPR system featuring high-powered cameras that send a crisp license plate image to the LPR processor. The LPR processor translates the image into text and checks against various hotlists that update throughout the day. When a match occurs, an audible alert sounds and a detailed alert appears on the laptop. Live checks can be performed with the touch of a single button from the vehicle via secure wireless connections. Veriplate can be deployed in three configurations: In-Car (permanently installed on a vehicle), Check Point (consists of a camera on a tripod and a laptop for temporary setups) and Static (permanently installed at a static location, such as a bridge, traffic pole or parking lot entry or exit).

Integrated LPR

Data911’s LPR technology is integrated with their Mobile Digital Video software. Officers who use this low-cost LPR technology software don’t need a separate, dedicated computer. The software can be installed on the same computer as their other in-vehicle applications. A car equipped with Data911’s LPR can read over 1,000 plates per hour. Plates can be compared against databases at a rate of 150,000 per second while also leaving enough CPU available for other tasks such as video processing and CAD. Any hits will alert the officer and automatically trigger the Mobile Digital Video to start recording.

Tactical LPR System

The new Tactical Operations Center (TOC) Plus from ELSAG is a software system that’s used in conjunction with ELSAG’s LPR product. TOC Plus broadcasts LPR alarms to dispatch and other patrol units in real-time so they can respond to aid immediately. Alarm information includes the time and location of the LPR read, the suspect plate number and vehicle make and model, if known. It works automatically and can filter alarms by type and broadcast destination, saving critical time. TOC Plus increases the likelihood of quickly apprehending offenders identified by the LPR system, and also increases officer safety.

Flexible & Versatile LPR

The P392 Spikelet is the latest LPR technology from PIPS. The product provides resolution and processing capability in a smaller, lighter package. It’s also power efficient. The Spikelet is capable of operating as a self-contained, solar-powered unit. The Spikelet uses a monochrome camera, with a color camera option, and a filter/flash feature for suppression of headlights and sunlight. It provides real-time video triggering for plate detection and has the ability to read multiple plates within a single field of view. The Spikelet has an internal modem capability or can be outfitted to use WiFi and GPS.

Customizable LPR System

Coban’s Vision is a cost-effective mobile LPR unit that continuously scans and compares license plates against an onboard database. Built-in application features include hot plate scan, chalking and white list validation. Customized hot lists are easily consolidated with state and federal hotlists to effectively find different targets based on department needs. Confirmed hits are immediately transferred to the backend server. From there, the alerts can be sent to dispatchers or administrators to assist field officers. When integrated with a Coban video system, confirmed hits trigger pre-event recording to provide a complete chain of evidence. The product easily integrates with existing Coban in-car video systems or Windows-based in-car MDCs. The system supports up to four LPR cameras per vehicle.

Low-Profile LPR System

Vigilant Video’s Raptor series camera is a low-profile, license plate capture camera with day and nighttime capability. This dual-lens camera system (color and IR) has a compact design and captures license plate data from 10–60 feet away at speeds up to 120 mph. The camera works in conjunction with Vigilant Video’s CarDetector system that automatically scans, detects and performs license plate recognition. When a license plate is detected in the video camera’s field of view, the adaptive optical-character-recognition engines extract the plate image, apply image enhancement filters and analyze each individual character of the plate, regardless of the plate colors or design. This technology automatically triggers in-car audio and visual alarms based on hot lists.

Genetec’s new AutoVu SharpX is the world’s smallest high-resolution LPR camera specifically designed for law enforcement. It’s small enough to mount covertly inside your vehicle’s grill or discretely underneath your vehicle’s light bar. The product has a high read rate. A fully equipped vehicle can capture up to 5,000 license plates per minute—day or night. It also allows you to read plates up to speeds of 160 mph (258 km/h) and across three lanes of traffic. With AutoVu SharpX’s LPR technology, officers can obtain accurate plate reads in bad weather, at poor angles and at high speeds.

Investigative LPR System

L-3 Mobile-Vision Inc.’s AlertVU LPR system automatically reads plates by collecting multiple plate image streams from infrared cameras, front-facing color cameras and/or low-profile, side-facing cameras. The processing system runs in the background of existing in-vehicle computers and instantly alerts officers when offenders are identified after searching databases for stolen cars, BOLOs and/or Amber Alerts. Plates are saved to a database automatically and wirelessly, and can be stored, aggregated, searched and analyzed for trends and patterns, as well as shared with agencies locally, regionally and nationally.
