CHARLESTON, SC - A Goose Creek police officer shot in the line of duty was released from the hospital Tuesday.
According to the Goose Creek police department's Facebook page, officer Robert Edwards Jr. was released, but will return for an additional surgery to repair his jaw Thursday. He should be able to return home that day or the next at the latest.
He will be finishing his recovery process in the comfort of his own home.
Edwards was shot multiple times in his upper torso Monday night while responding to a domestic disturbance call on Iris Street in Goose Creek.
Edwards' attorney David Aylor said that buckshot, small lead shot for shotgun shells, collapsed Edwards' lung and hit him in the face and hand.
According to Goose Creek police, as officers arrived, the suspect, 33-year-old Codrick Bass, exited the residence and began firing a weapon at Edwards. When other officers arrived on scene they began returning fire.
The suspect was also shot. Bass was denied bond and faces 19 criminal charges.
