FONTANA (Calif.) -- A Fontana police officer on Tuesday helped save the life of a 6-month-old baby who had stopped breathing, authorities said.
Officer Doug Locey and other officers came to a home after dispatchers received a call at 10:27 a.m. from a woman who said her son wasn't breathing.
Police said the mother was giving her son chest compressions when officers arrived.
Locey began performing CPR on the child and continued for about five minutes. The baby began breathing on his own.
Paramedics took the child to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. Police say the child stopped breathing due to a preexisting condition.
