Cops on Top, a group of officers dedicated to honoring fallen officers through mountain climbing, is, at press time, headed for Russia's Mount Elbrus, the highest point in Europe. Keith McPheeters, a sergeant with the Farmington (N.M.) Police Department, is leading a group of 10 climbers honoring Thomas Steiner, a California Highway Patrol officer gunned down by a gang member as he left court. Cops on Top has tackled some of the toughest mountains in the world, including Kilimanjaro, Denali and Aconcagua.
